Founders Thomas Lehrich and Todd Thistle highlight successful releases and an ambitious 2026 publishing slate
Red Barn Publishing is entering an exciting new chapter, celebrating strong growth, successful recent releases, and a full slate of launches planned for 2026. Founders Thomas Lehrich and Todd Thistle shared their enthusiasm for the momentum building around their newest titles, expanded series, and growing educational initiatives that continue to resonate with young readers, families, and classrooms.
Red Barn Publishing, founded by Thomas Lehrich and Todd Thistle, is proud to announce a period of strong growth, successful recent releases, and an exciting lineup of books planned for launch through 2026.
A key highlight of Red Barn Publishing’s growing catalog is The Four Brothers Mystery Series by Rik Thistle, a compelling mystery series gaining traction with readers. As part of this series, Blue Pearl is now firmly established in the Red Barn Publishing catalog, while Mystery of The Golden Nugget is scheduled for release in February 2026.
Red Barn Publishing is also celebrating the continued success of its popular children’s series, The Adventures of Backpacker Billy and Shave. Last month saw the release of The Adventures of Backpacker Billy and Shave: Utah’s Zion National Park and the Spotted Owls, which quickly become a success among animal lovers and young readers aged 4–9. The book’s vibrant cover showcases the iconic red rock landscapes of Zion National Park alongside its wildlife themes, helping captivate young audiences.
Looking ahead, Backpacker Billy and Shave will return in March with their first space-travel adventure, expanding the series into a new frontier. The upcoming title features a dynamic, space-themed cover that introduces young readers to exploration beyond Earth while retaining the curiosity and heart that define the characters.
In January, Red Barn Publishing released Pete’s Beat by Boston author Matt Robinson. The book, which explores musical discovery and creativity, has been enthusiastically received and is already being described by readers and educators as a strong contender for children’s book of the year. Its cover highlights rhythm, movement, and sound, visually reinforcing the story’s musical themes.
Educational and school initiative
In addition Thomas Lehrich outlined its new educational and school initiative. As part of this effort, The Adventures of Backpacker Billy and Shave titles are now being made available directly to educators and are being purchased and used in school districts and reading programs. These books are designed to support literacy, curiosity, and nature, with illustrated covers that engage young readers and support classroom use.
As Thomas Lehrich put it – “Seeing our books connect with children, families, and educators is exactly why we started Red Barn Publishing.”
Lehrich told viewers on public television in the Fall that:
“From mysteries to music to outdoor and space adventures, we’re committed to stories that inspire imagination, learning, and a love of reading.”
With a growing catalog, expanding educational partnerships, and multiple high-profile releases on the horizon, Red Barn Publishing continues to establish itself as a vibrant voice in children’s and young reader publishing.
